This lesson aims to introduce students to the basics of surfing the Internet and using a search engine such as Google to find information. In this lesson, the students are introduced to the Internet. First, they will be shown what the Internet is, and then they can experience the Web themselves. The main focus will be on surfing the net.







Students can:

Knowledge
define the concepts 'Internet', 'e-mail', 'World Wide Web', Web site, search engine, surfing, 'link', 'browser'
explain that a lot of information can be obtained on the Internet and that everyone can publish own information on
the Internet
list three services to use Internet for (e.g. search information, e-mail, chat)
explain how to select from the enormous bulk of information that is available on the Internet

Optional
explain what chatting and chat-rooms are

Attitude
show they are convinced that Internet is a useful source of information and inspiration
show they are critical in judging the value of information on Internet

Skills
give instructions how to use the basic functions of a browser (the URL bar, back and forward button and favourites
menu)
demonstrate how to use the 'Google' search engine to find information
