SEXUAL ABUSE

In 2000,
Two girls aged under 15 were raped each day.

One fourth of those having been sexually harassed were girls under 15.

Among 55 children and women receiving medical care from Vajira Hospital, about half were raped by relatives and acquaintances.

Among children aged 1 - 18 who sought help from the Public Welfare Department, more than 60 percent were sexually abused by father, relatives and persons known to the children.

In 2004,
From 1 January to 3 February, 4 girls under 16 were reported by newspapers to be gang raped.
